6 Things You Should Get Before Adopting a Cat

6. Collars:

According to American Humane, a non-profit group dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of animals, your cat should wear a collar even if he spends most or all of his time inside. If your cat escapes or gets outside, you’ll be covered with a collar, ID tags, and a microchip. Then he won’t be taken for a stray by a passing stranger.

It’s better to get your cat a breakaway collar, which will unlatch if you apply enough force. That way, if your cat’s collar gets caught in a fence or bush, he or she will not become trapped.
