Anemia Types
Anemia is typically classified as either regenerative or non-regenerative. Regenerative anemia occurs when the bone marrow responds appropriately to anemia by attempting to produce new RBCs to replace those that have been lost. Anemia develops in non-regenerative diseases when the bone marrow fails to produce new RBCs (or produces too few RBCs) to replace those that are lost. Multiple causes of anemia can be present in cats at the same time, complicating the picture.
