Before You Leave
Your new kitten should be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible to ensure its overall health. Although there is no specific age for the initial vet appointment, it is recommended that the kitten be examined within 24 to 72 hours of adoption. If you already have cats, it’s best to see a veterinarian before bringing a new kitten home. Your new kitten could be suffering from a disease that you are unaware of.
A pre-adoption vet visit may be impossible due to circumstances such as a rescued kitten or other urgent adoption. Keep the newcomer isolated in a bathroom or similar location away from your other pets in this circumstance. A litter box, food bowl, and water bowl should all be provided for the kitten. This will limit the risk of sickness or parasites spreading to any local cats.
