Blindness and Cats

Prognosis and treatment

The treatment for acute onset blindness will vary depending on the underlying cause, but medication is frequently used (eg, tablets to reduce blood pressure or relieve inflammation). In some cases, the underlying cause of blindness is reversible, and normal vision can be restored. In other cases, even if the underlying cause is resolved, the vision damage may be permanent, with no change or improvement in the cat’s vision.
