Treatment of Cat Chocolate Toxicology
Your veterinarian may induce vomiting to clear your cat’s stomach if it is susceptible to chocolate poisoning.4 You cannot safely perform this at home.
WARNING
Never use hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting in your cat at home. Although it used to be common knowledge, it is now known that cats can suffer major gastrointestinal damage from consuming hydrogen peroxide. Instead, take your cat as quickly as you can to the nearest open vet facility or your own doctor’s office.
Your cat may require fluid treatment to stay hydrated while at the clinic of your veterinarian in addition to blood or urine tests. To check for unnatural cardiac rhythms, an ECG may also be done. The symptoms of your cat will be treated by the vets as necessary, and for the following several days, your cat will probably eat bland food. If your cat consumes too much theobromine and is not treated right away, death could result. Call your veterinarian right away if you think your pet is ill.
