Hyperlipidemia Symptoms in Cats
In the early stages of hyperlipidemia, you may not notice any symptoms. This is why it is critical for cats to get annual or biannual check-ups with their veterinarian. As cats get older, veterinarians urge routine blood work to check for abnormalities such as hyperlipidemia, which can be identified in a blood test even if owners haven’t seen any of the following symptoms:
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Abdominal discomfort
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Weight changes
• Skin lesions
• Seizures and other nervous system issues
• Eye abnormalities
• Changes in behavior
• Increased thirst and/or urination
Cats with hyperlipidemia may display a range of symptoms. This is because the ailment is frequently caused by another sickness. If an accompanying disease process is present, the cat may exhibit symptoms of that condition as well. This is why it is critical to consult your veterinarian if your cat exhibits any symptoms of the disease.
