There is no reason to deny food to cats who are suffering from diarrhea. In fact, doing so can affect the digestive tract’s ability to heal itself, putting cats at risk for hepatic lipidosis, a potentially fatal kind of liver illness. However, it is ideal to keep your cat’s food as simple as possible. Remove any treats or table trash and focus purely on the basic, nutritionally balanced cat food you provide on a daily basis.
If you recently changed your cat’s food, go back to what you were feeding before and see if diarrhea goes away. Your cat may be allergic to one or more of the new food’s ingredients. Even if you’re feeding the same brand and type of food as before but have just started a new batch, it’s advisable buying a new bag or case with a different lot number to rule out contamination.
